Job Title: (Full Time) Webmaster/Editor

Reports to: Chief Communications Officer, National Office

Location: Toronto

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is a private, non-profit organization that prides itself on its entrepreneurial, science-based, non-confrontational approach to achieving conservation success. Since its establishment in 1962, NCC and its supporters have protected close to 2 million acres (800,000 hectares) of natural habitat across Canada. NCC has seven regional offices across the country with a national office in Toronto.

Overview:

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the nation’s leading land conservation organization. The past decade has been marked by significant growth and success for NCC. We are seeking an energetic Webmaster to join our Communications team. The role is a unique combination of technical, design and editorial responsibilities. Reporting directly to the Chief Communications Officer, and working closely with the Editor of Publications (Print and Digital), the incumbent will focus on building and supporting NCC’s brand awareness and donor outreach through the web. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other in-house departments including direct marketing.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, post and maintain content on NCC web sites
• Ensure sites are operational on a daily basis
• Liaise with CMS service provider (as authorized administrator)
• Enhance online content with text, images and multimedia sources
• Facilitate content updates
• Facilitate and support social media strategies
• Implement strategies to increase web traffic
• Ongoing evaluation and proactive support to improve usability and functionality
• Train and support Regional staff in the use of NCC’s CMS (Convio platform)
• Design, test and distribute dynamic multipart monthly newsletter
• Participate in planning to enhance the communications functions of NCC’s website in collaboration with direct marketing efforts
• Support and update program-specific websites
• Carry out quality control for all NCC websites
• Lead an annual web audit and work with all departments and Regions for validation of facts, relevance of content, links, etc.
• Respond to public, web-based inquiries
• Support internal image archiving processes
• Assist Regional Communications staff with web-related duties as required
• Providing statistical summary information/analysis to management on monthly and quarterly basis

Skills and Abilities
• Minimum three years experience as a website administrator for a large organization
• Strong design sense
• Advanced HTML programming skills
• Demonstrated experience creating and distributing dynamic e-newsletter
• Detailed-oriented, highly organized, multi-tasker
• Strong knowledge of social media
• Demonstrated experience with search engine optimization
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Experience with Convio, and web management tools an asset
• Ability to repurpose graphic design and layouts for online consumption
• Experience with image optimization and colour correction
• In-depth knowledge and experience working with Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and Photoshop
• Experience with Acrobat Professional, InDesign, Illustrator and/or QuarkXpress an asset
• Sound understanding of CSS, Javascript, Actionscript and (X)HTML coding
• Experience with a non-profit organization an asset
• Fluency in French an asset
• Passion and commitment to NCC’s mission and work is desirable
